Years of managing my own boats, and other people's, taught me a lot. Boat Partner makes it easy, and now YachtBot is raising the bar.
A note from David
I moved to Newport Beach in 2010 and discovered boating soon after. It felt out of reach at first. I rented everything in the harbor, then tried non-equity partnerships and leases. One partnership on a 42-foot sailboat ended before my first week when they learned my small son would be joining me. We'll give you all your money back, they said. But what I wanted was a boat.
Then I found a Craigslist ad for an equity partnership: real ownership, twice the boat I could afford alone, and it came with training. I bought into a 34-foot Sea Ray called Sea Sea Rider, and the years that followed wove our family tighter and brought our friends along for the ride.
A few years ago I was asked to manage a small fleet in Newport Beach. When the workload grew, I used my background in enterprise software to build the tools I needed. The app came first: a shared calendar everyone can see, cruise logs that capture fuel and how the boat was left, how-to videos so partners and family can learn the boat, issue reports that actually get resolved, boat photos that stay in the app, and notifications that keep everyone informed. That is Boat Partner.
The questions are the same on every boat: who has it this weekend, how was it left, what broke, and did anyone fill the tank. Boat Partner answers them whether you own your boat outright, share it with friends, or manage a fleet for others. Boat Partner is available today and already helping dozens of boaters. The Boat Partner management platform, the system I use to run finances and budgets and connect directly to the boat's bank account, will be released to the American boating community later this year.
